Cabinet Watch follows the public financial disclosures of the President, the Vice President, and senior US cabinet officials, as released by the United States Office of Government Ethics (OGE). The page itself is here, free, and updated every morning.
Two lists, both covering newly posted documents in the last thirty one days. The first is trades: purchases, sales, and exchanges of securities that officials report on Periodic Transaction Reports (OGE Form 278-T), which the law requires within roughly a month of the trade. Amounts appear exactly as the law requires filers to report them, in ranges, not exact figures. The second is every newly posted disclosure document for the tracked officials: transaction reports, annual disclosures, ethics agreements, and compliance certifications. Every row links to the original document on the OGE system, which is the authoritative record.
A quiet list is the expected state of this page. Senior officials commonly hold diversified funds, which need not be reported line by line, or have divested their holdings, so many weeks will show no trades at all.
Financial disclosure reports are not like the other public data we use. The Ethics in Government Act permits obtaining and using them only for journalism for the general public: in the statute’s words, “by news and communications media for dissemination to the general public”. Other commercial use, credit use, and fundraising use are prohibited by law, with civil penalties. This page is, and will remain, free public journalism, and the data on it is never used for any other purpose. The full quotes and our compliance notes are on the US Government Data page.
A disclosure is not an accusation. A reported trade is exactly that: a trade, reported as the law requires. It is not evidence of anything else, and this page does not imply otherwise.
